The Akoben Learning Center provides a comprehensive virtual learning experience for professional learning communities interested in sharpening their understanding of Restorative Practices. While we maintain that physical workshops are our ideal mode of content delivery, the ever-changing dynamics of our world have revealed an increased need for alternative forms of learning. Such circumstances have also underscored the need for restorative mindsets to foster connection, equity, and healing. Thus, we are committed to fitting our model into a digital space because we know that Restorative Practices must follow human beings wherever they go!

What's included...

The ALC features content from our core workshops, segmented into digestible micro-learning videos. Each core workshop is supplemented by a downloadable training packet and resources to guide your experience, as well as opportunities to leave and respond to comments from fellow participants. Over the course of one month, your group will have access to all the videos in your selected series, leading up to a live, 90-minute Q & A session, facilitated by an Akoben Specialist. We hope this tool helps you maintain momentum on your restorative journey!

Our Courses

Developing A Restorative Approach Pt. 1

You will learn about the premise of restorative practices and key foundational pillars: Connection Before Content, The Two Paradigms, and the The Social Discipline Window (a powerful framework for analyzing one’s use of authority) and The Formula for Change. Through self-reflection activities, checks for understanding, and end of module quizzes, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the value and implementation of a restorative approach.

Developing A Restorative Approach Pt. 2

Building upon DRA Pt. 1, you'll learn how we implement the Formula for Change through restorative practices. You'll engage with the Restorative Practices Continuum and explore both proactive and responsive approaches to connection + challenge. Finally, you will explore the role that shame and affect play both in cultivating a restorative mindset and in responding restoratively.
