The Akoben Way

The Akoben Way is more than just our philosophy. The Akoben Way is beyond just our “approach”.

The Akoben Way is how our team understands our values, the role of this work within the broader struggle for individual and community development and transformation and how we manifest our work in the actual improvement of organizations and lives.

The Akoben Way is the key differentiator between us and traditional professional development organizations.  It is what connects us deeply with those that are committed to challenging traditional thinking and methods around serving youth and communities.  It encompasses what we believe, what we train, and how we execute our work.

Core Concepts

In every Akoben project, we weave in our Core Concepts. We believe that these principles are interrelated as well as essential in the work of transforming lives and building effective organizations.

  • Restorative Practices
  • Cultural Relevancy
  • Trauma Informed
  • Agency and Assets

Core Methodology

Akoben is committed to living these 4 Core Concepts in action throughout our workshops, coaching sessions and keynotes. Our methodology for working with both individuals and groups is rooted in being restorative, trauma informed, culturally relevant and in promoting individual and collective responsibility for the work.

Akoben’s Unique Success Techniques:

  • Opening (Connection Before Content) and Closing (Pearls & Commitments) Circles
  • Turn and Teach Activities
  • Ago-Ame Call and Response
  • Certificate of Completion:  10 days after event upon receipt of homework

The Akoben Philosophy

We believe in the power of transformation:
  • Ourselves
  • Our youth
  • Our community

We lead the struggle to positively affect change through effective programs, presentations, workshops and consultations.
